The manufacturer, Reckitt Benckiser, is a British company which has a patent for Viagra that makes it available to the South African market and other countries.
The patent for the product means that the patent holder is able to protect the product from competition by using it for sale to the South African market.
Pfizer, the manufacturer of the product, has announced that it is selling the product under the brand name Viagra South Africa and it will be available to the public at a price of 50% off the retail price of Viagra in the first half of 2016.
According to the product's packaging and label, the product will be sold at a total cost of R27.75, which is R17.60.
The company's CEO, James Wattie, is quoted as saying, "The company was approached by the company's authorised supplier and the supplier gave us their CV, so we knew we wanted to do something special. The supplier gave us a lot of information about the product and it has been approved by our supplier, but we don't have the experience or knowledge to get the product off the market. I am confident that we are going to get the product on the market. The manufacturer is confident in its products and we are confident that we can sell them."
Pfizer also said it would be launching its own generic version of Viagra at a cheaper price, but it is not known if this will be available to the public.
As well as the price of the generic Viagra, Pfizer will also have to pay about R1.5 million to the South African Revenue Service (SARS), the country's largest public health agency.
The company is in the process of reviewing its products and will have to make a decision on whether it is suitable for sale to the public and whether it is worth the risk.
